Cusco Walking Tour
Cusco Walking Tour – Overview
Cusco, or Qosqo in the language of the Incas, was the heart of the Incan Empire. Its cobble-stoned streets and Inca-laid foundations intermix with colonial and Renaissance architecture. It is considered one of the two most beautiful cities in South America, including Buenos Aires in Argentina. On this tour you will be able to see the main attractions of the city.
Cusco Walking Tour – Itinerary
Your guide will meet you in your hotel in Cusco at the pre-arranged time. First you will visit the Cusco’s Cathedral, where you can view colonial paintings from XV, XVI and XVII centuries, including a painting of the Last Supper with the local specialty, cuy (guinea pig) as the main dish. The local artists managed to capture the culture and history in uniquely historical way, such as the Virgin Mary painted in the mountain shape (mountains were gods for the Incas).
After the tour of the Cathedral, your guide will show you some Inca streets and Inca palaces, which all conserve the original Inca walls, and explain you the history of them. Then you will walk down to Qoricancha, or the Temple of the Sun, considered the most important temple of the Inca Empire. Since the Spanish arrived to Peru, the architecture has been mixed with the colonial arches. The Qoricancha offers you the finest architecture from the time of the Incas and also it conserves some temples dedicated to the moon, sun, stars, etc.
Your tour will end with a walk around the big and bustling San Pedro Market, where you will discover the small mysteries of daily local life of the local people. A freshly squeezed smoothie, made from the most luscious fruit of your choice, will be the perfect refreshment you can’t miss, while you discover new mysterious smells of the market, some unidentified, some pleasant, some not so pleasant, mingling with brilliant colors, sounds and people. The swirling vortex of the market life in San Pedro is a thrilling experience.
