Apart from offering you a beautiful scenery of this unique mountain, all surroundings are just spectacular because its high elevation. Also this trek includes 3 day trekking around the tallest mountain in Cusco region called Ausangate.

Day 0.- Pre-departure briefing

Ausangate – Rainbow Mountain Peru – Pre-departure briefing

One day before your trek in a pre-set time your guide will meet you in your Cusco hotel to give you the last details about the trek.

Day 1.- Cusco – Upis – Unsangate ccocha hike

Early in the morning by 6 am we will pick you up from your Cusco hotel for 3 and a half hours drive to Upis (4,400 m / 14,435 ft), where we will spend that night. After we arrive to this place, we will get ready for the short hike to the lake of Ausangate which is only one and half hours away. This will also give us the chance to get the closest to the Ausangate mountain the most for the Incas in Cusco region. We well be back to camp by 3 or 4 pm and we will have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy the hot springs at the camp. This will also help us to acclimatize to the altitude for the rest of the trek.

Day 2.- Upis – Pumaccocha

Early wakeup call with a nice cup of coca tea. After a warm breakfast, we will start our trek and climb through covered broken rocks, mosses and lichens in gradual uphill towards Arapa pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft.). Then we will descend in gradual downhill to Pumaccocha lake (4,600 m / 15,091 ft). When we arrive to camp it will be around 2 pm and a delicious lunch will be ready and waiting for us. After we eat, you will have time to explore and eather just walk around the lake or go to the lake of Usphaccocha or “Smoky” lake, because its color.

Day 3.- Puma ccocha – Culli Tarwi – Yan Orcco

This day probably is the most challenging day of all trek because we will go through two high passes. After waking up at this beautiful camp at the base of Ausangate mount, we leave the camp towards Apacheta pass (4,950 m / 16,240 ft) for about 2 hours. Then we hike down to lunch spot where we will find llama farms. After lunch we will start ascending again to the second pass for the next couple hours with beautiful scenery and the first sigh of the Rainbow mountain Peru in the distance. The last stretch is downhill to the camp.

Day 4.- Yana Orcco – Rainbow mountain – Quesiuno – Cusco

You will have an early morning wake up call with a nice hot coca tea by one of our members and then have a delicious breakfast before our hike. Today the hike takes us to Rainbow mountain Peru (5,010 m / 16,437 ft) in one and a half hour gradual incline. After we reach the Cerro Colorado we will spend for about 30 or 40 minutes around to explore the place and take pictures. Then we will hike down for 3 hours to Quesiuno where we will have lunch before taking the 3 hour car back to Cusco.

Additional Options

1. Machu Picchu tour: Since most of treks include Machu Picchu tours, after the trek we can organize this tour for you at an additional cost, because this trek takes place southern of Cusco and Machu Picchu is west of Cusco.

2. Huayna Picchu: In order to climb Huayna Picchu, you must book well advance since permits are limited to 400 tickets per day. The cost is USD 55 per person, and that would be if you take the Machu Picchu tour.

3. Machu Picchu montaña: It is taller mountain than Huayna Picchu and offers you spectacular views of Machu Picchu and surroundings, and our clients like it even better than Huayna Picchu. To get to the top it will take us about 1,5 hours and another 1,5 hours back down. The tickets are usually available almost all the time, unlike Huayna Picchu. The cost is USD 50 per person.

4. Personal horse: You can have a horse to ride all the way from the beginning to the end of the trek. The cost is USD 40 per day.
