Overview
“Travel the world. Understand different cultures. Be inspired by beauty everywhere. Make friends all over. Be a citizen of the world”
Willoq village is located near the Sacred Valley in the Urubamba mountain range over 12,800 ft, surrounded by mountains with great views, known as one of the last surviving villages from the Incas. These natives kept amazing traditions from their ancestor Incas, and nowadays Peru by Locals is able to connect you with this beautiful living culture, descendants of the Incas. Their textile art is one of the oldest textile traditions in the world and became one of the most developed during the time of the Incas due to the use of different materials and techniques (result of its hybrid culture gained from the conquests of other ethnicities). The Incas were able to produce a variety of clothing and everyday items.
Experience this amazing day with our people, learning about their beautiful traditions, eating their food, and learning their language.
This experience is recommended for any type of people, including families with kids, since during the visits you will meet children with very different cultures, education, and lifestyles so you can interact with them.

Our guides are natives who fully understand their own culture and speak the native language Quechua, Spanish, and English, allowing you to better understand the natives since they speak Quechua as their primary language.

Itinerary
Early morning pick-up from your hotel in Cusco or Sacred Valley at no extra cost. You will be transported to Willoq through picturesque villages and scenic views of the Sacred Valley mountains. Along the way, we will stop at Ollantaytambo town to visit the local market where we will purchase some bread for our family (natives) since the tradition of visiting a family always involves bringing them the big traditional Peruvian bread called CHUTA as a present.
We will arrive in Willoq and meet our family who will take us to their home where we will learn about their culture and traditions. Depending on the season, they may be harvesting, cultivating, or engaged in other family activities so we can be part of the experience to better understand daily life.
The local ladies will also demonstrate the entire weaving process their ancestors used, from obtaining alpaca wool, dyeing the wool with plants, to making beautiful blankets as shown on their clothes.
The children of the community will say goodbye with a beautiful dance that will last forever in your hearts.
Note: The family speaks Quechua (the language of the Incas) and also speaks Spanish, especially the younger generations. Therefore, we provide you with an English, Spanish, and Quechua-speaking guide to facilitate communication.

OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS
How long before should I book this experience?
This day activity does not require a permit, but Peru by Locals still needs at least a week to put everything together.
What is the weather like during the year?
The Cusco area has only 2 well-defined seasons: the wet season and dry season. The wet season starts in November and ends in March. During this period, it rains almost every day for three or four hours, but there are also several sunny days. The dry season begins around March and lasts until October. June and July are the coldest months. Paradoxically, at noon the temperatures can reach 23 °C (77°F), the annual highest temperature.
Should I tip the guide and driver? If I do, how much should I tip?
Our guides are paid fairly according to Peruvian labor laws – that is why we don’t require our clients to tip the crew. However, most of our clients want to show appreciation for the work they do and the service they receive. If you feel like giving them appreciation or a tip, feel free to do so at the end of their work. In that case, we recommend tipping 15% of the total cost.
Is there any age limit?
In this experience, there is no minimum age or upper limit. Any person who loves interacting with other cultures, seeing history differently, and tasting real Native Peruvian food is welcome to join us on this unique experience.
