Overview
This is a full-day tour that covers the main attractions in the Sacred Valley plus 2 attractions that should not be missed, which are also located near the Sacred Salley. It is a beautiful stretch of small villages and has ancient ruins spread across a broad plain and rugged mountain slopes that run from southeast to northwest of Cusco.
The valley was of great value to the Incas due to its special geographical location and climatic qualities. It was the best place for maize production in ancient Peru – even the Spanish used to call it the Sacred Valley. Along the valley flows the Urubamba River (called the Willcamayu by the Incas). The Incas believed that the river was the earthbound counterpart of the Milky Way. It was also home to many Incan citadels such as Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, and Machu Picchu.

Itinerary
SACRED VALLEY TOUR
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Cusco at 7 am to start your tour with about a 1-hour ride to the Pisaq archaeological complex, a beautiful Inca site with its Temple of the Sun, ancient Inca cemetery, terraces, water fountains, great architecture, and an amazing view of the Sacred Valley.
Then we move on to the Ollantaytambo archaeological complex for about a 1.5-hour detailed tour of the Temple of Water, the Temple of the Sun, the Bath of the Inca Princess, agricultural terraces, etc.
Ollantaytambo is also known for being an Incan living town, so we will be able to take a short walking tour through the streets to experience the architecture of this old town.
You may be ready for a great lunch after visiting these places in Urubamba at HUACATAY restaurant, one of the top restaurants in the Sacred Valley that offers a variety of great Peruvian food.
Leaving Huacatay restaurant, we will move towards the amazing pre-Hispanic salt mines of Maras to experience the history of the largest salt mines in the Andes. The last archaeological attraction will be the ancient agricultural place of the Inca Moray, located on the small plateau of Maras. On the way back to Cusco, we will stop at a local weaving industry where local women from Chinchero will show you how they still use flowers, roots, and seeds to dye the wool of alpacas and llamas and demonstrate the weaving process of making blankets and other products. They will also offer you a cup of MUÑA tea or the local mint while they explain their work.

Should I tip the guide and driver? If I do, how much should I tip?
Our guides are paid fairly according to Peruvian labor laws – that is why we don’t require our clients to tip the crew. However, most of our clients want to show appreciation for the work our guides do and the service they receive. If you feel like giving appreciation or tipping them, feel free to do so at the end of their work. In that case, we recommend tipping 15% of the total cost.
