Itinerary
Early morning pick up from hotel in Cusco or Sacred Valley with no extra costs and be transported to Misminay village through picturesque farming villages and scenic views to Sacred Valley mountains. Along the way, we will stop at Iscuchaca town to visit the local market where we will purchase some bread for our family (natives) since the tradition of visiting a family is always to bring them the big traditional Peruvian bread called CHUTA as a present.
Once we arrive at Misminay village, we will be welcomed by the family that will take us to their home where we will learn about their culture and traditions. Depending on the season, they may be harvesting, cultivating, or engaged in other family activities so we can be part of the experience to understand daily life better.
The local ladies will also do a demonstration of the whole weaving processes as their ancestors did, from getting the wool of alpacas, dyeing wool with plants, until making beautiful blankets as shown on their clothes.
We will be helping them to prepare one of the most delicious and central cuisines in the Andes called Pacha Manca, a meal cooked underground that includes potatoes, meat, and others. While our pachamanca cooks, we will be part of the Pachamama (Mother Earth) ceremony, which is an ancestral celebration to honor the earth for giving us food, water, basically life.
Note: The family speaks Quechua (the language of the Incas) and also speaks Spanish, especially younger generations. The reason we will provide you with an English, Spanish, and Quechua-speaking guide is to facilitate the communication.
After a delicious meal, we will be transported for 10 minutes to the old agricultural experimental place of Moray for a historical tour to understand more about the natives’ agricultural skills. Then we will visit the largest Pre-hispanic salt mines of Maras where we will find more than 3,000 salt pools processed by locals all by hand as their ancestors.
We will be expecting to be back at Cusco or Sacred Valley hotel by 5 pm.

OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS
How long before should I book this experience?
This day activity does not require a permit but Peru by Locals still needs at least a week to put everything together. If this is a last-minute decision, reach us so we can do everything to make this unique experience happen for you.
What is the weather like during the year?
The Cusco area has only 2 well-defined seasons: the wet season and dry season. The wet season starts in November and ends in March. During this period, it rains almost every day for three or four hours, but also there are several sunny days. The dry season begins around March and lasts until October. June and July are the coldest months. Paradoxically at noon the temperatures can reach 23 °C (77°F), the annual highest temperature.
Should I tip to the guide and driver? If I do, how much I should I tip?
Our guides are paid fairly according to Peruvian labor laws – that is why we don’t force our clients to tip the crew. However, most of our clients want to give them an appreciation for the work they do and the service they receive so, if you feel like giving them an appreciation or tipping them, feel free to do it at the end of their work. If that’s the case, we recommend tipping 15% of the total cost.
Is there any age limit?
In this experience, there is no minimum age or limit – any person who loves interacting with other cultures, seeing history differently, tasting real Native Peruvian food is welcome to join us on this unique experience.
