Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Cusco
When you arrive at Cusco Airport, your designated guide will meet you and drive you to your hotel. On the way, he or she will show you examples of Incan and colonial architecture and provide instructions for the activities. Today, you will meet your guide at the hotel at 5:30 p.m. for a pre-trip talk, followed by dinner at our chosen restaurant.
Includes: Pick-up from the airport to the hotel in Cusco, dinner, and hotel accommodation in Cusco.
Day 2: San Pedro Market and City Tour in Cusco
Our morning begins with a short walk along some streets of Cusco, where you will see a mixture of Incan and colonial architecture, including beautiful narrow streets and balconies. You will also visit the local San Pedro Market to experience the vibrant local culture through its food, fresh juices, vegetables, medicinal plants, and more.
Next, you will tour the colonial Cathedral of Cusco, where you can view paintings by the Cusco school—including a rendition of the Last Supper featuring the local specialty, cuy (guinea pig). Local painters captured the culture and history in a uniquely historical manner through their artwork.
After a delicious lunch, you will be transported to Saqsayhuaman for a guided tour of this incredible site, built with stones weighing up to 120 tons that fit together without mortar! There is arguably no place in the world that rivals the architecture of this site. Afterwards, you will tour the Inca archaeological site of Qenqo, considered the Temple of Mother Earth and once thought to be the tomb of the most important Incan king, Pachacuti. We will then be transported to a hotel in the Sacred Valley for about 1 hour, with the opportunity to capture stunning sunsets along the way.
Includes: Breakfast, Lunch, transportation during the tour, guide, entrance tickets to attractions, and hotel accommodation in Cusco.
Day 3: Natives Visit at Willoq Community (Portraits)
Early in the morning, we will be picked up from our hotel in the Sacred Valley and transported to Willoq Village through picturesque towns and scenic views of the Sacred Valley mountains. Along the way, we will stop at Ollantaytambo to visit the local market, where we will purchase traditional Peruvian bread, known as Chuta, as a gift for our host family.
Upon arriving at Willoq, you will meet the local family who will welcome you into their home, where you will learn about their culture and traditions. Depending on the season, they may be engaged in harvesting, cultivating, or other family activities—allowing you to experience daily life firsthand.
The local women will also demonstrate the traditional weaving process practiced by their ancestors—from shearing alpacas and dyeing the wool with natural plants to creating beautiful blankets as seen in their traditional clothing. The local children will bid you farewell with a beautiful dance that will remain in your heart.
Note: The family speaks Quechua (the language of the Incas) and Spanish. To facilitate communication, we will provide an English-, Spanish-, and Quechua-speaking guide.
We will also enjoy lunch at the village, featuring Pachamanca, an ancient method of cooking food on hot stones.
Then, we will drive for about 30 minutes to the Ollantaytambo Train Station to catch a Vistadome train at 3:37 p.m., which will take us to Machu Picchu Town in a 1 hour and 40-minute journey.
Includes: Breakfast, transportation, lunch, guide, cultural experience with natives, train tickets to Machu Picchu Town, and hotel accommodation in Machu Picchu Town.
Day 4: Machu Picchu Sunrise
Early in the morning, you will take a bus to Machu Picchu in time for sunrise, allowing you to capture the first shots in less crowded conditions. Your guide will take you to strategic locations and provide a detailed tour covering the culture and history of the Seven Wonders. You will visit the main temple, the Temple of the Condor, Incan palaces, the stone quarry, and the sun observatory. This tour typically lasts about 3 hours for a complete understanding.
You will then return to Machu Picchu Town around 10 a.m. for a delicious lunch before taking the train back to Cusco.
Includes: Breakfast, round-trip bus ride from Machu Picchu Town to Machu Picchu, entrance ticket to Machu Picchu, tour guide, lunch, transfer from the train station to the hotel in Cusco, train ride back to Cusco, and hotel accommodation in the Sacred Valley.
Day 5: Hummingbird Sanctuary and Salt Mines
We depart from the Sacred Valley hotel at 7 a.m. for a short 10-minute drive to the Hummingbird Sanctuary, where you can capture the flight of various hummingbird species along with other birds. We will spend a couple of hours there before heading to the salt mines of Maras (also known as Salineras). Our drive through the Sacred Valley offers stunning views of the Urubamba Mountain Range and farmlands. We expect to be back in Cusco around 3 p.m., giving you extra time to relax in Cusco City.
Includes: Transportation, guide, entrance tickets to Salineras, and hotel accommodation in Cusco.
Day 6: Rainbow Mountain Hike
We will depart from our Cusco hotel at 4:00 a.m. for a 2-hour drive to Cusipata town, where we will stop for a delicious breakfast at a local restaurant. After that, we will continue with a 50-minute drive to the trailhead at Phulawasipata (4,700 m / 15,419 ft). This section of the drive passes through beautiful landscapes featuring alpaca and agricultural farms.
Our hike begins along a meandering path with spectacular vistas of snow-capped mountains and is surrounded by herds of alpacas and llamas.
After hiking for about 1.5 hours, we finally reach our destination: the magnificent Rainbow Mountain (5,020 m / 16,466 ft). No Photoshop or Instagram filters are needed—this awesome display of color is 100% natural and completely breathtaking.
We will take our time at the summit to capture spectacular pictures, breathe in the clean air, and explore the area—or simply enjoy the breathtaking views. Afterwards, we will take a short 20-minute walk into the Red Valley. This less-frequented valley offers a tranquil and beautiful hike among the crimson rocks, leading to a stunning view across the valley.
The descent will take about 1.5 hours to reach our van, followed by a 50-minute drive back to Cusipata, where a delicious lunch awaits. Then, we will continue our journey for 2.5 hours to Pacchanta, with great views of the southern snow-capped mountains of Cusco in the distance. Upon arrival at Pacchanta, you will have time to relax at the hot springs under the beautiful sky. That evening, we will set up camp.
Includes: Breakfast, guide, entrance tickets, transportation, lunch, dinner, and camping gear.
Day 7: Hike to 7 Lakes
Our hike begins around 7 a.m. with a gentle uphill trek offering amazing vistas of snow-capped mountains, such as Ausangate Mount—the tallest mountain in the Cusco area. We will hike for about 2 hours (10 km / 6.2 miles) to the farthest lake, called Otorongo. Then, we will start exploring the 7 Lakes while breathing in the pure air of the Andes. We will return to the hot springs for lunch before catching our ride back to Cusco.
Includes: Breakfast, guide, entrance tickets to the area, lunch, and hotel accommodation in Cusco.
Day 8: Departure from Cusco
Today, you will be picked up from your hotel 2 hours before your flight back home or to your next destination. The exact pickup time will be provided once you share your flight details.
Includes: Drop-off at the airport.

Often Asked Questions
Where Do I Meet the Team?
On the day you arrive at Cusco Airport, your guide will be waiting with a sign that reads PERU BY LOCALS along with your name. (Note: Cusco Airport is domestic and very small.)
How Long Before Should I Book This Trip?
Machu Picchu permits must be booked in advance. We recommend booking this trip at least one month prior to your travel dates. It is best to secure your spot with a pre-payment of $100 per person.
What is the Weather Like in Machu Picchu During the Year?
Weather in the region is extremely variable, so you should pack for a range of conditions. Our trek passes through ten bio-zones, from high-altitude alpine conditions to high jungle. On a sunny day, temperatures can range from 18–25°C (65–77°F); however, at higher altitudes, temperatures can drop to 6°C (42°F) during the day.
The Machu Picchu area has a humid climate and tends to be warmer, being located at a lower altitude near the Amazon Jungle. Average temperatures in Machu Picchu range between 23°C to 25°C (73°F to 77°F), with minimum temperatures around 18°C (64°F).
The Cusco area experiences two well-defined seasons: the wet season (November to March) and the dry season (March to October). During the wet season, it typically rains almost every day for three to four hours, though sunny days also occur. The dry season, particularly in June and July, is the coldest, with noon temperatures sometimes reaching 23°C (77°F).
What Am I Going to Eat on the Trip?
All restaurants on the trip offer à la carte options, ranging from meat dishes to vegetarian selections. If you are vegan or have a strict diet, please let us know so that we can arrange for specialized dining options. Some of the restaurants we frequent include Morena in Cusco, Indio Feliz in Machu Picchu, Organika in Cusco, and similar establishments.

We specialize in small groups, ensuring personalized service—especially when exploring Incan sites, local flora and fauna, and cultural heritage. Our treks are limited to a maximum of 8 people, though groups typically consist of 2 to 5 guests.
How Do I Get Water on the Tours?
We will have water available in the tour vehicle, but we recommend bringing a Nalgene water bottle or camel bag to minimize waste. While you may encounter locals selling bottled water along the way, not everyone disposes of waste responsibly. Please help protect our environment by refilling your bottle whenever possible. Note that many hotels in Peru do not have facilities to refill water bottles.
Can I Pay the Rest of the Balance on a Credit Card or Does it Have to be in Cash?
We collect the remaining balance in cash to avoid extra fees. While you can use PayPal or a credit card, please note that fees of over 5% may apply.
On the day of your briefing, when your guide meets you, a representative will also collect the remaining balance for your trek.
