Packing List

Essential Packing List for Your Machu Picchu Adventure

Prepare for your unforgettable journey to Machu Picchu with this comprehensive packing guide. To ensure you’re ready for all the excitement and natural beauty that awaits, here’s what you should bring:

  1. Original Passport
Don’t forget your original passport! Ensure it’s the current version. If you’ve received a new passport since making your booking, bring both the original (used for your trip booking) and the new one. The name on your passport must match your Machu Picchu tickets for a smooth entry.
  2. Comfortable Walking Shoes
Choose sturdy, well-broken-in walking shoes suitable for hiking. If you buy new shoes, make sure to wear them in prior to your trip to avoid discomfort during your adventures.
  3. Warm Down Fleece Jacket
Evenings in the Andes can get chilly, so pack a warm fleece jacket to keep cozy during nighttime temperatures.
  4. Hiking T-Shirts
Bring at least 3 to 4 breathable, moisture-wicking t-shirts designed for active wear. You’ll likely break a sweat while hiking, so having extra shirts is a must.
  5. Socks
Pack at least 3 pairs of comfortable socks to keep your feet dry and blister-free throughout your trek.
  6. Sun Hat
Protect yourself from the sun with a stylish sun hat that provides shade for your face. Many tours take place outdoors, and sunny days are common in this stunning region.
  7. Light Long Pants
Lightweight long pants are recommended to keep you comfortable during warm days and provide sun protection.
  8. Sunscreen
A high-performance sunscreen with SPF 35+ is essential to protect your skin from UV rays while exploring the Peruvian landscape.
  9. Sunglasses
Bring a good pair of sunglasses to shield your eyes from the bright sun as you traverse this breathtaking ancient site.
  10. Camera
Capture the magic of Machu Picchu with a camera! Don’t forget your spare batteries or smartphone to ensure you snap all the incredible moments during your trip.
  11. Bug Repellent
Protect yourself from mosquitoes by packing a reliable bug repellent, as these pesky insects are present year-round.
  12. Reusable Water Bottle
Machu Picchu National Park does not allow plastic bottles, so be sure to bring a refillable Nalgene or CamelBak water bottle. Fill it up before leaving your hotel, as you’ll have opportunities to replenish your water supply during the tour.
  13. Toiletries
Don’t forget to pack your essential toiletries for personal care during your trip.
  14. Prescription Medicines
Communicate any medications you’re taking to your trip leader for the duration of the tour to ensure your health and safety.
  15. A Good Book
Make the most of your downtime during drives by bringing along a book. Explore stories about Machu Picchu or enjoy your favorite novels. Recommended reads include Last Days of the Incas by Kim MacQuarrie and Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time by Mark Adams.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDES? IF I DO, HOW MUCH SHOULD I TIP?

Should I Tip the Guides? If I Do, How Much?

Tipping is a wonderful way to show appreciation for the exceptional services provided by your guides and drivers during your journey. We recommend tipping your guide approximately 10% of the total trip cost, and about 5% for your driver at the end of your adventure.

By tipping generously, you not only express gratitude for their hard work but also contribute to the local economy. Your guides are passionate about sharing their knowledge and ensuring you have a memorable experience in Peru!

Feel free to adjust the amounts based on your satisfaction with the service provided. Thank you for considering this thoughtful gesture during your travels!

HOW BIG WILL MY GROUP BE?

We specialize in small group tours to ensure you receive the highest level of personalized service. This approach allows our guides to spend quality time with each guest, enhancing your experience as you explore Incan sites, local flora, and the diverse fauna of the region.

For our treks, we limit group sizes to a maximum of 8 people, fostering a more intimate and engaging atmosphere. Typically, our groups consist of around 2 to 8 travelers, allowing for meaningful interactions and ample opportunities to learn about the rich culture and history of Peru.

HOW DO I GET WATER ON THE TOURS?

Staying hydrated is essential during your adventures, and we make it easy for you! Fresh water will be available in the vehicle used for your tours, ensuring you have access whenever needed.

To minimize waste and protect our beautiful environment, we recommend bringing reusable water bottles, such as Nalgene or CamelBak. While you may encounter locals selling bottled water along the way, it’s important to be mindful, as not all vendors practice responsible disposal. Unfortunately, littering can harm the natural beauty we all cherish.

By refilling your reusable bottles whenever possible, you contribute to reducing plastic waste and caring for our planet. Please note that while hotels in Peru typically do not have facilities for refilling water bottles, you can always fill up at our vehicles before heading out for your day’s adventures.

CAN I PAY THE REST OF THE BALANCE WITH A CREDIT CARD, OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE IN CASH?

For your convenience, we accept the balance of your payment in cash, which allows you to avoid additional fees. If you prefer, you do have the option to pay via PayPal or credit card; however, please be aware that this method incurs a processing fee of around 6%.

On the day of your briefing, when your guide meets you, a representative will be there to collect the remaining balance for your trek. This process ensures a smooth and hassle-free experience as you prepare for your adventure.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about payment methods or need assistance with your booking!
